Easy wins opened the new season for Caistor Cricket Club’s 1st and 2nd teams at the weekend.
The 1sts had a seven wicket win against Appleby Froddingham 2nds. Froddingham won the toss and elected to bat, but the bowling of Sean Woolley (39 for 4) and Paul Dimbleby (27 for 3) soon tore into the attack.
Jack Dixon, 32, and John Taylor, 26, were the only Froddingham batsmen to reach even double figures as Caistor dismissed them for 99, Paul Jackson and Kieran Brooker picking up the other wickets.
In reply, Caistor met their target of 100 with ease. There was already 59 on the board when Harry Boulton went for an lbw having hit 34.
Paul Ridley followed soon after for 17, and Dominic Bishop for just 1, but Lane Tutty, 30 not out, and Gareth Johnson, 6 not out, soon saw Caistor home.
Caistor 2nds eased to victory away at Grimsby Town 2nds, winning by 10 wickets.
Caistor won the toss and elected to bowl, The partnership of David Taylor and Matthew Cliffe made a good start for Grimsby, putting 38 on the board before Cliffe went for 18.
With the score on 49 Taylor was bowled by Harry Capstick and caught by Mark Gowshall.
Grimsby will have been thinking this was a start to build on, but Caistor’s Chris Laister had other ideas.
Laister ripped through the Grimsby attack returning figures of 30 for 9, cleaning up the rest of the Grimsby attack for 111, Hayden Tice, 17, and Graham Thompson, 29, the only resistance.
The reply was clinical, Jim and Kevin Parker reaching a winning 115 without the loss of a wicket.
Caistor 3rds suffered defeat away at Keelby 2nds, who ran out winners by seven wickets.
Keelby won the toss and elected to bowl. Caistor began well with 60 on the scoreboard before Dave Gowshall was bowled by Gary Spencer for 44.
Oliver Barrick scored 25 before being caught and bowled, but was given little support as Keelby’s Gary Spencer and Udi Sheikh ripped through Caistor’s attack, Ben Young, Rebecca Brooker, Liam Overson, Matthew Brown and Meggan Quinlan all dismissed for a duck.
Caistor 3rds were reduced to 109 all out, Gary Spencer returning figures of 31 for 5 and Udi Sheikh finishing on an incredible 12 for 5.
In reply Keelby reached their target for the loss of just three wickets, Andy Sharp hitting 37 and James Gorbutt 38 not out as Keelby eased to 110, Liam Skipworth and Gary Spencer adding the extras.
