CRICKET: Sleaford too strong for depleted Market Rasen Sunday team

A depleted Market Rasen Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI travelled to London Road to face the newly promoted Sleaford CC.

Having won the toss, captain Will Bradford decided to make use of the typical green Sleaford surface by batting first in the hope of posting a total which would befit the batting line-up available to him.

A strong looking Sleaford team were never going to let Rasen settle and when both Bell and Stephenson had departed with the score on 13, only skipper Bradford made any real impact on the game, scoring 49 and missing out on his first half century of the season.

Some support was offered by the youthful James Fussey and Nic Keast, but finishing on 117-9 from their 40 overs and the Sleaford bowlers all sharing the wickets, it was never going to be enough to defend.

Boasting three ECB batsmen in their top five, Rasen’s bowling attack tried in vain to capture as many wickets as they could with Fussey, Charlie Scales and Luke Richards all taking one a piece, but after 22 overs in the field Colyn saw Sleaford home with ease.

This weekend the Sunday 2nds host newly elected Woodhall Spa 2nds (2pm start) and on Bank Holiday Monday the 1sts return to league action when they host Cleetohrpes 2nds at Rase Park (1pm start)
