Owmby CC started their 2014 season in Division 1 of the Lincolnshire League with an impressive win against Scunthorpe 2nds.
After winning the toss, Owmby captain Sam Atkin decided to field, in what proved to be a good decision, when Daniel Clark removed opener Smith in the second over of the match.
After some tight bowling from Owmby, Scunthorpe got back in to the match with the score on 67-3 at drinks.
Owmby then dominated the rest of the innings taking seven wickets in six overs thanks to some impressive bowling by skipper Atkin (5-27) and new boy James Greenwood (3-14) to leave the visitors all out for 95.
Knowing that chasing 96 would be comfortable if everyone batted correctly, Owmby’s innings started cautiously, scoring at around 1.8 runs per over. Two quick wickets put Scunthorpe on top briefly with the score on 27-2 after 15 overs.
However any early scares were soon forgotten as a 49 run partnership from Dave Hill (36) and Kev Bowring (16 not out) saw the home side close to the finish line.
When Dave Hill was well caught with 20 runs left for victory, brother Dan Hill joined Bowring at the crease and saw Owmby home to see them claim maximum points.
This weekend Owmby are at home against Horncastle starting at 1:30pm
