Louth CC 2nd XI entertained Alkborough 2nd XI on a sunny Saturday at London Road.
Alkborough won the toss and elected to bat first. They were soon reduced to 9 for 2 as Phil Nicholson (8-2-17-2) took two early wickets. A partnership of 63 then brought Alkborough back into the game as they reached drinks at 72 for 2, the pitch was playing really well and with a fast outfield Louth knew they had to work hard to restrict Alkborough’s total.
Skipper Phil Burrell removed opener Gray for 26 in the over after drinks and then the 29th over changed the game as two wickets fell leaving Alkborough 96 for 6, Ed Brindle (11-3-36-1) bowled an impeccable line and length while spinner Burrell ripped through the Alkborough lower order finishing with 7 for 20 off 10.4 overs as Alkborough were all out for 111.
After tea Louth openers Steve Wright and Richard Bell set about the total, early movement restricted scoring opportunities, but Wright was soon upping the tempo with some excellent straight drives.
Bell was unfortunate to be out for 11 having hit a shoulder high full toss off a quick bowler to square leg ending an excellent partnership of 81.
Zain Siddique came to the crease and played some attacking strokes as Wright brought up his half century, no further wickets were lost as Louth won with 26.2 overs to spare, Siddique finishing 18 not out and man of the match Wright scoring an excellent unbeaten 75 as Louth took full 20 points.
