A strong batting performance was not enough to secure victory for Caistor Cricket Club’s 1st XI on Saturday as they lost by six wickets at home to Cherry Willingham.

Batting first, Harry Boulton scored a rare duck before Peter Briggs and Liam Wood formed a partnership, Briggs hitting 63 before being bowled and caught by Gary Bierlein.

Rory Ronaldson hit 38 and Andrew Pearson 18 before Wood and Jim Parker ended the innings undefeated on 77 and 23 respectively to give Caistor a promising total of 227 for 4 after 50 overs.

Sadly Cherry Willingham’s opener Will Carter had other ideas and it was his undefeated innings of 126 which guided Cherry to 231 for 4 in 47.3 overs.

The defeat puts Caistor bottom of the Lincolnshire County League Premier Division but they will look to bounce back this Saturday as they travel to Haxey.
