Caistor Cricket Club’s 1st XI sealed their first win in the Lincolnshire County League Premier Division with a 104 run victory away at Haxey on Saturday.
Put into bat, Caistor opener Peter Briggs set about putting the runs on the board, and had hit 56 before he was dismissed.
Although Caistor’s early order could not match Briggs he formed a partnership with Andrew Pearson to take Caistor to 115 for 5.
Sadly Briggs then immediately fell, Caistor wobbling on 115 for 6. Three more quick wickets, Jim Parker, Gareth Johnson and Sean Woolley saw Caistor on 127 for 9 and Haxey full of confidence.
Cue Kieran Brooker and Paul Jackson to steady the ship. Their last wicket partnership saw the both finish Caistor’s 45 overs undefeated, hitting 44 and 14 respectively to end the innings on 187 for 9.
And it was Jackson who was then instrumental with the ball when Haxey took to the crease. He took six wickets and Sean Woolley three as Caistor dismissed the home side for just 83.
It could have been worse for Haxey, they were just 34 for 6 at one point before Arshid Kahn hit 19 and Keegan Allan 21.
The result lifts Caistor to eighth in the league and will go into their home game with Alford and Saturday with renewed vigour.
