CRICKET: Brigg a force to be reckoned with but Keelby and Hibaldstow face up to narrow defeats

Our area cricket teams had mixed fortunes on a Saturday when most games were played but some in the Lincolnshire League fell foul of wet ground conditions after heavy rain in the previous days.

In Division 2 Keelby went down to visitors Alford 2nds. Keelby posted a score of 151, which was reasonable given the damp outfield. Alford chased that down all the way and in the end got to their target on 155 for 7. Danny Bevis hit 31 and Scott Bennett 32 in the Keelby total while Brendan Volley took 3 for 47 in their attack.

Hibaldstow were another local side to have a nail biting finish, but they lost out to Louth 2nds by just one wicket, Louth’s last pair being at the crease when they made it home.

Hibaldstow had only posted a total of 95 at London Road, Josh Cowling top scoring with 22 and Louth probably felt they were in for an easy win. The bowler friendly conditions had their say though, hence the final margin of only one wicket for the winners as Louth ended on 96 for 9. Gary Dixon took 4 for 4 for Hibaldstow and Joe Taylor claimed 3 for 18.

Brigg Town are looking as though they will be a force to reckon with in Division 4 in their first season back in the league. Against Cleethorpes 4th they rattled up 178 for six, Charlie Trembath hitting 58 and Jack Richards 34. That was far too much for Cleethorpes who were all out for 125,Baker top scoring with 59. Simon Dixon claimed 4 wickets in the Brigg attack.

Batting first in their game with East Halton, Keelby 2nds hit 132 (Sanjay Chauhan 59) before East Halton replied with just 113 to give Keelby a 19 run win. John McLellan was their main wicket taker with impressive figures of 6 for 18.
