Lincolnshire’s Call Connect on-demand rural bus service has launched a £1 a ride deal for the county’s youth.

The bus service is available to all and works by people booking a ride in advance and being picked up to order, if a bus is available.

Twenty-eight buses service the county, including two in Market Rasen and Caistor.

Call Connnect senior transport advisor Maria Lyon said launching the service in a rural location like the High Ropes Centre on Legsby Road, Market Rasen, reflected how the service can pick up young people from rural locations and take them to ‘hubs’ like Market Rasen or Wragby, where they can use scheduled services for longer journeys.

Call Connect, which charges regular bus prices for adults, delivered 300,000 passenger services in 2013.

“It’s a lifeline. It connects people in rural communities,” Maria continued.

“People book trains and coaches. Now, they can get used to booking a bus. But to sustain rural living, There has to be some degree of flexibility in services.”

Maria is visiting schools across the county to explain buses are as much for youth, as they are for older people.
