Ups and downs of critic’s life

EDITOR – I feel your correspondent, Mr Robert Chapman of Caistor, would find work as
a food critic deeply disappointing.

In my many years as writer and journalist I have often had to take on the role of food critic.

The problem was that I had to take the rough with the smooth – and at times it was really rough.

My advice to Mr Chapman is to continue to be the enthusiastic and discerning amateur he clearly is and eat locally in cafes and restaurants of his own choice. That way he won’t go far wrong.
