Sweet shop - How did I ever forget?

An apology for a senior moment (viewpoint - retirement of Gordon Hildred, Market Rasen Mail, November 4); how could I forget Garnett’s sweet shop, almost next door to Lancaster’s Butchers shop, another family-owned shop still trading from when I was a boy.

I can vividly remember the home made ice cream dispensed by Mr Garnett ... two flavours of strawberry or vanilla, which was very rare in those days in smaller shops.

There was also a wonderful display of sweets, including a caramel called Too Good for you Spot, with a small dog depicted on the wrapper, still the best goodie I have ever eaten.

Such happy memories from a lovely old Rasen then. So much has gone but never forgotten.
