Parking problem is wider than the Market Place

EDITOR – I read with interest the Market Place parking debate and wish to make the following comments

I travel to Market Rasen once a week (usually on a Wednesday) for shopping mainly at Co-op and other shops in that area of town.

Often the Co-op car park is full, but the store is only moderately busy.

It has been suggested that many people use that car park as a means of shopping in the Queens St/Market Place is consistently full.

It has also been rumoured that Staff of businesses in the Market Place and adjacent areas regularly park on the Market Place virtually all day. No doubt a daily covert survey at 30 mines intervals for a period of time could verify or disprove this comment.

I would suggest that the town council operate a pay and display system with the first 1 and a half hours free to enable shopping but the charges be substantially increased immediately after that. The current pay and display machines should be able to cope with the free time suggested.

A penalty for overstaying the ticket time should be introduced. Disable drivers should not be excluded from any charges levied. I have a heart condition and suffer from gout, often having to use a stick.

I am in the process of applying for a disabled badge but i would be prepared to pay.

There are also difficulties with the Mill Street car park by the Drs Surgery but this is a matter for West Lindsey Council whom I shall be writing. You may wish to consider a debate on this and John Street in the future.
