You have, in recent years, taken an interest in the RAF Hemswell Association re-union at Hemswell taking place each September, and you have sometimes sent a reporter and published a report.
At our AGM after this year’s re-union we came to the reluctant conclusion that we are unable to carry on, and agreed to wind up the Association. This letter is to advise you of that.
The Secretary/Treasurer, Jeff Goodwin and I have agreed to stay in position until the end of the year to wrap everything up.
It is 45 years since RAF station Hemswell closed and we have been gathering back there on the old parade ground for the last 18 years.
We have got to know some lovely people, both ex-RAF and in the local community, and we are sorry not to be able to continue.
Hopefully the spirit lives on because the Hemswell Cliff Parish Council plan to continue to hold an annual commemoration at the memorial in September and to invite those of us still able to join in.
Our thanks to you and your staff for your interest and support over the years, and hopefully, some of us will still see evidence of ‘Market Rasen Mail’ at future Hemswell Days.
