Letter: Grateful for efforts of our councillors, and proud to live in such a caring town

EDITOR – I am a member of the Caistor community. I’ve been aware of a lot of negative letters that have been directed at the local council.

To cast another light on the council I wanted to take the opportunity to say what a fantastic job they do, particularly as evidenced throughout the snow.

It was wonderful to receive Alan Caine’s updates, to be in a community where neighbours have been encouraged to help each other, and where the council took the initiative to clear the market place even though it is not their responsibility to do so.

I don’t think there are many places where you would see the actual councillors and mayor out with their shovels digging the ice and snow for the community to get better access to local businesses.

Of course it would be lovely for everywhere to have been cleared of snow, but I’m not sure I want to pay the extra tax that would be needed to enable that to happen!

In the meantime it’s been great to have community leaders who pull people together to do what is possible, whether shovelling snow or moving bins to make sure they will be collected.

It was also a pleasure to see the incredible tree in the market place provided by Sealord, erected and decorated by a team of generous locals.

As a member of the community I am really proud of the representatives who give their time and energy freely and willingly to make decisions and act on our behalf.

I hope they know how deeply appreciated they are.
