LETTER: De Aston Field - Town needs adult leisure

I welcome the purchase of the De Aston Field by Market Rasen Town Council as I feel the town is in need of an adult-friendly leisure area.

The children of the town are well served but I would like to see De Aston Field developed as an oasis for shoppers and as a place for working people to take an open-air lunch break or to unwind at the end of the working day.

Perhaps some residents would be willing to sponsor benches - possibly in memory of deceased loved ones.

The idea of an arboretum is particularly attractive and with the involvement of local organisations it could be a major asset to the area. We have only to look at the success story of Market Rasen’s Station Adoption Group to see what can be achieved when volunteers work together.

I don’t think we should alienate the dog walkers as they need to go somewhere, though additional dog waste bins should be high priority as real dog lovers are happy to clean up after their pets.
