LETTER:Council does not need to apologise for freezing tax

In response to Mr Bowles’ letter in last weeks Market Rasen Mail, we certainly do not need to apologise for freezing council tax for the last three years.

It is correct that it has been possible to do so with Government support but at the council, Conservatives recognise the pressure that household and family budgets are under and have been prepared to find more efficiencies so that county tax bills do not rise further.

We have also taken the difficult decisions in good time, so that savings found early can contribute to protecting important frontline services as well as freezing council tax, which is presumably the money referred to.

Incidentally, the Independent political party which Mr Bowles supports, also supported the freeze which does make his later statements a bit surprising.
