Leader’s column - Busy time for WLDC team

I hope everyone enjoyed a good Easter break and made the most of the fine weather that we have been enjoying.

Here at West Lindsey District Council we are continuing our hard work to keep our communities happy and healthy.

I was delighted to see that so many people benefited from the first round of the Lincolnshire Energy Switch scheme. The 1,000 people across Lincolnshire who signed up for it are set to save an average of £167, which will make a huge difference to their yearly household finances.

That is why I would encourage anyone who missed out last time to sign up to the switch this time round. To register, visit www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/switch or call 01529 301990 between 9am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays). There is no obligation to switch so there is nothing to lose by registering, but you must do it by the deadline of Monday 9 June.

As much of our district is rural, we have been working hard to improve access to computers and the internet. Last month I wrote about the £160,000 grant from the European Social Fund, which is being used to install computers and improve internet provision at a number of venues.

The council is now on the look out for volunteers to act as digital champions to help people get to grips with, and make to most of the new equipment.

There are some excellent events coming up over the next few months, which are being supported by the council including the West Lindsey Churches Festival and the Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival. They are both fantastic opportunities to get out and about and enjoy what our wonderful district has to offer.

Finally, I would encourage anyone living in the Caistor area to complete our survey to find out if there is a need for an NHS dentist in the town. The results will be presented to the NHS who can then use it in their planning for new facilities.

Questionnaires have been sent to Caistor and the surrounding 15 parishes who might benefit, and you can pick up a copy from them. To complete the survey online, visit www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/dentalsurvey . All completed questionnaires need to be handed in by Monday 12 May 2014.
