EDITOR – Your recent headline (Failure to appear costs man dear) relates to a man who failed to appear for two days’ unpaid work which was part of his original punishment.
For the life of me I cannot see how being given an additional ten hours is any form of punishment for failing to comply with a court order.
He will probably spend at least two of those hours in a van travelling to and from the place where he will do his “unpaid work”, as well as lengthy tea and lunch breaks.
How that can be construed as “costing him dearly” is beyond my comprehension.
