EDITOR – With reference to your article dated June 1 regarding the 10k Race being organised by West Lindsey District Council to be run on Remembrance Sunday.
The members of Tealby and Market Rasen Branch of the Royal British Legion would like to express their disquiet at this.
There are, after all, many more Sundays that could be used without clashing with any other event, especially at that time of year.
We would also be obliged if the spokesman for the organisers could explain how they can trivialise Remembrance Sunday as a local event.
As far as we are aware Remembrance Sunday is observed on a NATIONWIDE basis with millions, if they do not attend parade, watching on national television.
If this is how WLDC view Remembrance Sunday then it may be better for all concerned if they said so and stayed away.
We look forward to the district council’s response.
