All at nursery have been let down by county council

EDITOR – I was very sorry to learn this morning from nursery manager Nicola East that the Racing Start Day Nursery and Fun Club would be closing as of July 19 this year.

This is as a direct result of Lincolnshire County Council refusing funding for new purpose-built premises for the nursery to move to within the Market Rasen town centre.

I am disappointed that this has been allowed to happen, as the council has been researching alternative premises for two years and kept our hopes up of finding a suitable location within the town centre, only to be informed that the council does not now have the funds for a new build.

It goes without saying that this is obviously going to have a huge effect on parents, the nursery staff finding new jobs and, most of all, the children who attend.

I am very sad about this decision as the staff at the nursery are absolutely wonderful and cannot be praised enough.

As a result of this, parents are going to need to find suitable alternative childcare settings (which match the superb quality of care at Racing Start) and the children will need to go through another ‘settling in period’.

Lincolnshire County Council has let down the parents, staff and children, and it is a real shame to break up such a fantastic nursery.
