West Lindsey responds to earthquake incident

Staff from West Lindsey District Council have been working through the night in response to calls about dangerous structures following the earthquake.

One property in Gainsborough’s Trent Street has been evacuated and the family has been taken in by their landlady.

Trent Street in Gainsborough is closed to traffic and a local builder is checking properties.

People concerned about damage to their homes are being urged to call (01427) 676676. Anyone with damage to their building that may risk, or has the potential to risk the public should call 999. Examples include loose tiles and damage to chimney stacks.

West Lindsey’s Deputy Chief Executive Daren Turner said: “Building Control and Street Force officers have been working throughout the district gathering data which will give us a clear picture of the damage.”

Mike Thomas, Chief Fire Officer said: “Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are recommending that county residents check their buildings for damage. If structural damage gives cause for concern, leave the building and contact Fire and Rescue on 999.”
