Wragby round-up

WRAGBY’S GOT TALENT – As Britain’s Got Talent returns to the TV, the town hall committee hosts Wragby’s Got Talent on September 17.

The event is open to all ages, so don’t miss out on your opportunity to shine.

Closing date for entries is August 31, so entry forms must be with Jill Shepherd at Turnor Square by then.

If you do not wish to tread the boards, then do go along on the night and enjoy seeing all the acts performed by local people.

WHIST – Results of the whist drive held on Friday, August 12, were: ladies – 1 Mrs L Swift, 2 Mrs E Cockerell, 3 Mrs M Needham; gents – 1 Mrs E Stubbs, 2 Mr K Christie, 3 Mr M Swift.

Highest half went to Mrs R Abbott and Mr R Dixon. Miniature winners were Mrs B Olliffe and Mr E Taylor.

WI – Guest speaker at the August meeting of the WI was Zoe Tant on her subject of Paper Craft (bag making).

Members were shown and assisted on how to fold and glue card to produce a delightful bag/purse to take home.

The competition for a pretty bag was won by Mrs M Fox and Vera Smart, with Linda King in second.

Flower of the month winners were Audrey Saul and Pauline Cooper, with Mrs C Scourfield taking second spot.

Margaret Saunders and Dorothy Warr gained first place in their sections at the Witham Group Produce Show held recently, where entries were up on previous years.

The next meeting, which includes the mini produce show, will be held on Monday, September 12, when the speaker will be Neil Curtis on Sausage Making.

FILM SOCIETY – The first film of the new season will be The King’s Speech, to be shown in the town hall at 7pm on Wednesday, September 14.

SWIMMING POOL NEWS – The Grand Raffle draw was held on Saturday, August 6, at the swimming pool.

Ticket sales brought in a total of £227 for pool funds.

Waitrose has generously supported the fundraising effort with a donation of £250.

Committee members will be having two tables at the Bardney Gala and would welcome donations to be used for the tombola.

Please leave any items at the swimming pool.
