The future of the Sheffield to Cleethorpes Railway Line through Brigg and Kirton Lindsey stations will receive two boosts this month.
A pre season friendly football match between Brigg Town and a Sheffield United XI is set to take place at The Hawthorns, home of Brigg Town FC, on Saturday July 11.
Publicity for the line will be helped by the ‘The Friends of the Line’ displaying posters at Sheffield Midland station giving details of services and encouraging ‘Blades’ supporters to travel by train.
As previously reported the line only operates these days on Saturdays, but the Friends of the Line are actively campaigning for a regular weekday passenger service.
This Saturday July 4, a Lincolnshire Ramblers walk from Brigg to Barnetby also encourages ramblers to use the line.
The walk, led by Stuart Parker, is free and he will meet the train at Brigg station at 9.30am-contact him on 01522 534655 for more information.
A new set of pictures, posters and leaflets will also give the line a boost, with people encouraged to try new venues line side for days out using the service, such as a delightful canal walk from Shireoaks to Kiveton Park.
Friends spokesman Paul Johnson said: “We will also be displaying posters from the Chesterfield Canal Trust, as well as some old pictures of Brigg and Kirton in Lindsey, donated by Brigg resident and station adopter at Gainsborough Central Phill Hewson.
“After two weeks we have raised £125 towards the printing of the planned Brigg Line guide, we shall be working with our partners at the Gainsborough Rail and Bus Group to formulate a design.
