Friends have paid tributes to a Market Rasen woman who was killed in a serious collision in Mill Road yesterday afternoon, Tuesday September 1.

The woman, named locally as Vera Tranter, was involved in a collision with a black Vauxhall Vivaro panel van near the town’s library at around 4.25pm. She was trapped under the vehicle and fire crews from Market Rasen, Caistor and Lincoln had to use air bags and jack to release her.

Mrs Tranter, 71, was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary, but later died from her injuries.

The driver, aged 46 is from the Brigg area was interviewed by police following the crash. The road was closed at the time of the collision and re-opened at 9.20pm.

Today, Brian Marshall, treasurer of the Tealby and Market Rasen branch of the Royal British Legion, paid tribute to Mrs Tranter, the wife of RBL branch secretary Les Tranter.

Mr Marshall described Mrs Tranter as a “lovely woman” whose death had left him and his wife “devastated.” He said she was a big part of the branch’s annual Poppy Appeal and had been on her way back after playing bowls at the Methodist Chapel when the tragic collision took place.
