TRIBUTES have been paid to Kathryn Kitwood, Brigg Mayoress, who died after a short illness in Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
She was Mayoress to husband John Kitwood during his mayoral year in 2004-5 and also during the present year.
Her last civic function was to switch on the town’s Christmas lights in December.
Mrs Kitwood’s funeral service was conducted at St John’s Church, Brigg, by Rev Alex Depledge.
Long serving councillor Mike Camplin paid tribute at the service.
He said: “Kathryn was a perfect mayoress, a lovely lady proud to hold the office and stand beside John.
“She will long be remembered.”
Mrs Kitwood was a keen gardener and animal lover.
She had been in the same class at school as John when she was Kathryn Markham and in her youth she was keen on athletics and netball.
She married Roy Croft and they had two sons Dean and Neil.
As a young mother she had several jobs including being a home help but had time to be involved in starting Wrawby Junior Football Club. Roy died when Kathryn was only 43.
In 1994 she married John Kitwood. For a while the couple lived in Brigg and more recently in Scawby.
As well as her two sons Dean and Neil Mrs Kitwood leaves five grandchildren.
Committal followed the Brigg funeral service at Woodland Crematorium.
A guard of honour was formed by Brigg Town Councillors at St John’s as the coffin was borne at the church.
The civic representation was led by Coun Carl Sherwood, deputy town mayor of Brigg and Coun Keith Vickers and Mrs Vicky Vickers Mayor and Mayoress of North Lincolnshire.
