Over nine years a group of baking fanatics have raised a staggering £80,000 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
The five selfless volunteers from the Isle of Axholme Supporter Group are famous for their sweet and savoury treats which they were recently selling in Epworth and raised £315.
Friends Peggy Sivorn, Mary Green, Louise Wright, Chris Brownless and Jean Lewis not only have a passion for baking but also the hospice, which they believe everyone has been touched by one way or another.
Louise said: “We’re really proud of the amount we have raised, but we couldn’t have done it without all the kind donations from the public.
“I decided to become a volunteer because I know people who have appreciated the service, so I thought it would be good to give something back. The hospice has touched all of our lives.”
Peggy added: “When I retired I wanted something to do so I decided to join the group and I have never looked back! We are all really good friends who enjoy baking and fundraising.”
The group’s delicious baking is so popular they made £900 at the Hospice Garden Party in June and they have a cake stall next at the North Lincolnshire Strongest Man & Woman at Glanford Park in September.
“We try and do as much as we can, but it’s hard with only so many hands,” added Louise. “So we are always looking for new volunteers to join our group and make a difference!”
The group said they are amazed of the generosity of the public.
“It’s fantastic the amount of support we get from people,” said Mary.
“Everyone has so many kind words to say about the hospice, if they have either visited it or know someone who has been thoughtfully treated.”
