A Tealby teenager has won first prize in the ‘light verse’ category at the annual Lincoln Music and Drama Festival.

Year 11 De Aston student Alice Hardy performed a poem about examiners, which she felt was very apt for people of her age.

“I felt nervous and scared that I would forget my lines, but once I got going I enjoyed the performance,” she said.

“I wasn’t expecting a trophy and was very surprised.”

And Alice’s Mum, Helen, said a lot of Alice’s inspiration has come from her drama teachers at De Aston School.

Lynn Chapman, Alice’s current drama teacher, said: “Alice is an absolute delight to teach.

“Not only does she work hard, but she also has a true strength at working with others.”

But Alice isn’t the only De Aston pupil making the drama news.

Fellow year 11 student Hannah Gaskell is currently featuring in the latest KFC television advert.

Hannah, also from Tealby, said after she received the offer to star in the television advert she was “ecstatic” for days.

She added “My family have been very supportive; it is my mum that drives me everywhere” she added.

“My whole family are really proud and are helping me do the best I can. I am so grateful for that.”

The advert took two whole days to film, with Hannah facing 63 retakes of biting into the Kentucky fried chicken.

And former pupils pursuing acting careers are also doing well.

Tom Boxall is in a production of ‘Enron’ at his university, which has been selected for the National Student Drama Festival, while Tom himself is currently being considered for an acting award.
