VOLUNTEERS are needed to launch a new singing support group for sufferers of Alzheimers and their carers.

Singing for the Brain is run across the UK, but the Alzheimer’s Society is looking to set up Lincolnshire’s first group in Market Rasen before rolling the programme out across the county.

The society has found that the singing groups calm Alzheimer’s sufferers and promotes a sense of well being.

Bex Mezzo, volunteering officer for the Alzheimer’s Society East Midlands, said: “We are looking for a group leader, or two group leaders and some volunteers to support them and set up this brand new service for Lincolnshire.

“No experience is necessary, we just want a musical type of person to lead the singing group.

“Singing for the Brain removes the isolation that can be found in caring for somebody at home and brings a sense of well being to people through the fun of singing.”

People can find out more by logging on to www.alzheimers, and looking under the jobs and volunteering section.

The website also has information on Dementia Awareness week, which runs until this Friday, July 9.
