Electrifying, exquisite and thoroughly entertaining - Grimsby was given the glitter ball treatment as ‘Strictly’ came to town.
An Evening with Karen and Kevin from Grimsby saw an almost capacity audience be entertained by six of the television show’s pro-dancers: Karen Hauer, Kevin Clifton, Joanne Clifton, Aljaz Skorjanec, Janette Manrara and new pro Giovanni Pernice, plus assistant choreographer Patrick Helm.
And for one Rasen resident it was an extra exciting evening.
Mark Bennett was one of three competition winners to take to the stage and dance with one of the Strictly dancers.
His partner was Joanne Clifton and Mark wowed the judges with his Samba, in particular his mid-dance splits, which lead Joanne to describe him as ‘fearless’.
But it was Waltham’s Helen Urquhart, dancing and American Smooth with Kevin Clifton, who topped the judges’ scores and won the audience vote to take home the glitter fish trophy in the mini Strictly contest, hosted by Russell Grant.
“I just entered the competition for a laugh but never thought I would be here,” said Mark.
“It has been a totally amazing experience.”
It was the second year running Karen and Kevin had brought their Strictly friends to perform in the Clifton’s home town and they were pleased to be back.
“It’s great to be back performing in Grimsby,” said Karen Hauer.
“Strictly and what we do is very family orientated - it’s just great dancing everyone can enjoy.”
