Robert Jacques of Jacques Hardware in Market Rasen is to run in this year’s London Marathon.
Robert is to join 35,000 other runners on April 26 to raise funds for the Lincolnshire and Notts Ambulance Charitable Trust and the MacMillan Cancer Appeal.
“I run all the time. I did the Chester Marathon in October last year. I have always wanted to run the London Marathon,” he said.
Robert was lucky to gain a ballot place, which he applied for last April and received in October. Had he not received such a place, Robert says would be expected to raise £2,500 or contribute the difference. To date, he has gained just £40 sponsorship.
The regular runner trains 6 days a week, with 20-mile runs every other Sunday. He runs for Caistor Running Club and on February 15 will be taking part in a 30km race in Stamford. On March 7 there will be a 27.5 mile race near the Humber Bridge and on the 15th, the Gainsborough 10K.
Every other Sunday, Robert says he enjoys a 15-23 mile run.“It’s a great way to keep fit and the fresh air keeps you healthy,” he said.
Sponsors can call into his shop in Market Place.
