Members of Market Rasen Rotary Club are helping to support the rural victims of flooding in the Somerset Levels.

At last week’s meeting, Rotarians agreed the club would send a £500 donation to the Rotary Club District of Somerset.

The money is for immediate flood relief to be used to help put the lives of the local residents ‘back together’.

Whilst the Rotarians in the affected area work closely with the Emergency Voluntary Agencies Group, donations sent to the Rotary Flood Relief Fund will be distributed and administered solely by a small team, led by Rotarian District Governor Brian Kirkup.

The £500 donation was provided by the club’s general fund, the Open Gardens charity fund and from funds raised by the Club’s Environmental committee, principally from Open Farm Sunday in 2013.

In addition, to increase the £500, Rotarians made donations privately to the Rotary Flood Relief Fund.

Supplies of fodder and straw are also being sent to farmers in the Somerset area, as a gift from farmers in this area.

Anyone who would like to send a donation through the Rotary route can contact the club treasurer, Nigel Douglas on 01673 844746.
