Rasen swimming pool petition launched

MARKET Rasen’s swimming pool is raising its head above the water again after the formation of a petition group.

A Facebook page has been launched by town resident Les Worrall, who is determined to show West Lindsey District Council that people do want a swimming pool in the town.

“We have been constantly told that taxes would have to go up to pay for the running of the pool and people wouldn’t want to pay it,” said Mr Worrall, “but everybody I speak to wants a pool and would be happy to pay.”

“At the end of the day, the costs quoted would mean only about 83p per household per month.

“I currently spend at least £50 a month taking my daughter to Gainsborough to go swimming and the travelling involved is also not very environmentally friendly.”

Mr Worrall is hoping at least 300 people, who live within a ten-mile radius of the town, will sign up on the Facebook page and then they can look at getting a formal petition together to present to the council.

“There has been a lot of new housing built in the town over the past few years, but nothing has been done to improve leisure facilities for these new families moving in,” he added.

“I want to see the swimming pool back on the map.
