Town a beacon for new planning pilot programme

A NEW national scheme which will give residents control over how their town develops and where new housing and facilities are built is set to be piloted in Caistor.

The town has been chosen by West Lindsey District Council because of its “track record” of working together to further community projects.

The town would also receive a government grant of £20,000 with which to pilot the scheme, which would result in a new town planning strategy being put together and then put to a referendum.

If the plans got more than 50 per cent of the vote the district council would then be obliged to build where the town had specified.
