Wisdom is the gift that elected representatives in local government can call upon more than most in their role in the community.

That was the message from Father Owain Mitchell at Brigg Town Council’s Civic Service.

Town Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor James Truepenny and Miss Sophie Brumby, welcomed representatives of other local councils, as well as members of Brigg area community groups.

They led the procession through the town centre to the service, which was held in St John’s Church.

In his address, Father Owain spoke of the pressures on those in public service.

“Those in responsible positions can feel vulnerable and get advice from all sides,” he said.

“We all have a view on local issues, our national political landscape at this time reflects this. If we all pull in different directions we will never get anywhere. But in the end wisdom will triumph.”

The Mayor and Mayoress read the lessons while the Mayoress also sang ‘To win just once ‘ by The Saw Doctors.
