The first by-election for a member of Brigg Town Council is set to take place later this month - and it is to be a straight political contest.

When nominations closed at the end of June, papers had been submitted on behalf of two candidates.

The nominated Labour Party candidate is Lew Schaffer of Brigg Road, Wrawby.

Mr Schaffer is a retired steelworker.

The Conservative candidate is Nigel Sherwood of Barton Road, Wrawby, who is the Brigg and Wold Ward North Lincolnshire Councillor and proprietor of Sherwood Cycles in Bridge Street.

It is the first time for many years a Town Council election has been contested directly between the two main political parties.

The by-election is to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation in the Spring of Coun Mell Oades and takes place on Thursday July 24.
