Plans for broiler units are rejected

Plans to build six broiler units on land off Gulham Road in North Owersby have been refused by West Lindsey Planners.

The application had been made by Mercer Farming Poultry and as well as the units included a number of associated buildings.

However, the plans were refused by the local authority at their recent meeting on traffic grounds.

In making their decision, planners said the proposed development would lead to an increase in the number of HGV vehicles along a stretch of road from the junction of the A631 to the site.

“ The existing carriageway is not in a suitable
condition to accommodate any increase in HGV movements and no works have been proposed to improve the overall construction of the roads,” said the report.

“Any increase in HGV movements will therefore have a detrimental effect on the condition of the
access roads, which will compromise and be harmful to highway safety.”

The application had received 28 objections from local residents, as well as objections from Owersby Parish Council.

Neighbouring Osgodby Parish Council had raised no objections to the proposed development.
