Retired Kingerby farmer Steve Smith is organising a charity clay shoot at the Nettleton Lodge Shooting Ground.

The event on Saturday May 9 is a fundraiser for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I) and the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust.

Steve is a regular fundraiser for the R.A.B,I, with him raising £1,100 for the two charities at a previous clay pigeon shoot.

The former gamekeeper also organised a charity plough-a-thon – in which he ploughed a field continuously for 24-hours. He plans to repeat that effort again in 2016.

Steve helps the R.A.B.I as a thank you for the financial and practical help the charity has given to him and other farmworkers in need.

The May 9 shoot starts at 10.30am and entry costs £15 per person. There’s a £100 high gun first prize with other events including a guess the weight of a spaniel competition.

“It’s all coming together and we’ve already got £1,000 guaranteed thanks to sponsored clay traps,” Steve added, with sponsors including Dave Grant Engineering and E-Quip Agricultural Spares. To find out more about R.A.B.I visit or call its helpline on 0300 303 7373.
