Owersby Parish Council has called a special meeting for January 19 to discuss plans for a 180,000 broiler bird plant on land off Gulman Road, North Owersby.

This follows Mercer Farming submitting fresh plans for the plant after it lost an appeal for a larger 270,000 bird scheme on traffic grounds.

The revised proposals, with four units and associated buildings, claim to have allayed traffic concerns by reducing its expected peak traffic use by 70 per cent, something disputed by Middle Rasen councillor Geoff Wiseman.

“That road is not built for heavy traffic. It’s dangerous. People use it for riding. It’s narrow and there’s no lighting. The HGVs find their tyres on the edge of the road, which is crumbling,” he said.

Next Monday’s parish council meeting takes place at St Martin’s Church at 7.30pm.

West Lindsey District Council is expected to consider the proposal in March.
