A Market Rasen man has been named in the final shortlist of ten vieing for the title of ‘Britain’s Sexiest Farmer’.

Arable farmer and sugar beet contractor George Grant was nominated for the competition in the Farmers Weekly magazine by his girlfriend Lucy.

“As well as his chiselled jawline and six pack, he has a caring, funny personality to top it off,” she said.

“In his spare time, he’s a stalwart of Wragby Young Farmers.”

And while the 20-year-old knew about the nomination, he admitted it came as a bit of a surprise when he got the call to say he was in the final shortlist.

“Lucy said ages ago she was going to nominate me as a bit of a joke, but then all of a sudden I got a call from Farmers Weekly and I couldn’t believe it.

“I’m getting some stick from my mates, but its all good fun and the competition helps spread the word that agriculture is a sexy industry.”

But now George needs the help of Rasen Mail readers to take the title, as the final decision of who should be name sexiest male and sexiest female farmer goes to the public vote.

More than 300 entries were received for the competition from across the country and the final 10 are aged between 19 and 54 years of age from Carmarthenshire, Derbyshire, County Durham, Essex, Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, Snowdonia , Somerset, Yorkshire and Powys.

Gok Wan said: “What a beautiful bunch. From that wholesome, natural country look to downright smoking, each one of our shortlist has a unique sexiness.

“To be perfectly honest with you, I’m rather relieved the final decision is not up to me – the public have got their work cut out choosing between this lovely lot.

“Whether they’re in wellies and overalls, or in a dress or DJ, farmers are pretty damn hot!”
