Despite the challenges of lockdown and remote working, Caistor and District Community Trust, in partnership with Lincolnshire Co-op, has been developing the plans for 2-4 Market Place, and are getting ready to apply for full funding of the project this spring.

Full planning and Listed Building Consent applications are also to be shortly submitted to West Lindsey District Council.

Alan Dennis, a director of Caistor and District Community Trust, who is involved with researching the history of these buildings, said on behalf of the board: “We are delighted we are getting closer to bringing these buildings back to life, sharing their heritage and making them accessible for everyone.”

The partnership joined together to find new and exciting uses for what is known as The Old Co-op through a comprehensive conservation and refurbishment project.

The site has been vacant for several years, and is noted as being one of the buildings ‘at risk’, requiring immediate attention.

Development funding was awarded to the Trust from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Architectural Heritage Fund, which has enabled the partnership to engage with the appointed conservation specialist design team to develop a series of appropriate and sensitive design proposals for the buildings.

Trust chairman Neil Castle said: “The Trust’s vision is to enhance the existing offer to Caistor by providing further opportunities for community activities, enterprise, social space and to help bring tourism to the town.

“The diverse and vibrant mixed-use development scheme will include the repair and conservation of the complex of historic buildings forming a new retail space, craft workshop and business units, holiday lets, as well as a community room/exhibition space. “
