Picture gallery: End of an era for education as school closes

Former pupils and staff went along to share memories at the farewell event for
Brocklesby Park School last week.

The end of this school term saw the end of 166 years of service to generations of local people as the school closed its doors for the final time.

One of the oldest former pupils present was Donald Anderson, who started at the school in 1932, one of four generations of Andersons to attend the school.

“Twenty-one of us (Andersons) all learnt to read and write in this place,” he said.

“I am thankful to the people who taught us all those years and to the Earl of Yarborough for providing the school for this village.”

While it was a time to remember happy days, it was also a sad time, especially for the current pupils, who will be moving on to new schools.

But Brandon Bowen was stoical about the changes.

“It (the closure) is upsetting,” said the 10-year-old, who will now go to Keelby School.

“I have only been here two years, but it has been the best two years.

“I have made lots of friends - we are like one big family and I will miss them.”
