Market Rasen Library ready to celebrate its golden years’ service

While the staff there would normally hold a big, fun, family event to celebrate such a milestone, due to coronavirus restrictions things will be on a smaller scale – but an event may be held later in the year, so watch out for that.

The library was officially opened by Alderman Mrs A B Nettleship on April 21 1971, having moved from its previous location on King Street.

So, next Wednesday, the library team will be marking the occasion in their favourite way...with cake!

The first 50 customers to visit the library on that day will be able to take away a cupcake to celebrate the occasion at home.

The team will also be taking over the Lincolnshire Libraries social media with a range of birthday, local and 1970s-themed content, including special story and rhyme times, a 1970s playlist and 70s trivia quiz.

Georgina Carr, library manager for GLL which runs the Lincolnshire Library Service in partnership with Lincolnshire Country Council, said: “We are so excited to be able to mark 50 years of Market Rasen Library serving the people of Market Rasen from our site on Mill Road.

“The library is such an important part of the local community, and though we cannot have a big party yet, we still want to mark this special day with all of our lovely customers, and you can’t have a birthday without cake!”

The library is now open from 10am to 5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, plus 10am to 1pm on Saturdays.
