It wasn’t just the Lincolnshire coast that was packed with visitors this weekend as West Lindsey District Council held its first ever ‘Gainsborough Beach Party’.

The town centre was transformed into a sandy paradise, complete with the sounds of the sea, traditional peep boards and even a giant deck chair.

Hundreds of visitors headed to the market place to splash on the sun cream, grab their buckets and spades and join in the summer fun.

A specialist company was booked to build the artificial seaside for families across the district to enjoy.

Rebecca Jackson, Gainsborough Markets Officer, said: “We’re so pleased with how the beach has been received, both days were packed with families and people curious to see what was going on.

“There have been so many people here over the two days who’ve not visited the market place in years, or have travelled from far away to join in the fun.

“We are always looking for new ways to attract people to shop and visit the area and this was a roaring success.”

Visitors were able to enjoy the Saturday market as well as soaking up a range of other attractions on the day including rides and face painting.

Those with a sweet tooth were also able to get their hands on some specially-made Gainsborough rock, bringing another taste of the seaside to town.

The next event to take place at the marketplace is a Sci-Fi Halloween Fun Weekend taking place on Saturday October 31 and Sunday November 1 with costumed characters roaming the market and finishing with a fireworks display at the riverside.
