The funeral service for former De Aston teacher Roy Alan Swinfen, aged 80 of Tealby, was held at the parish church.
The Rev John Carr officiated at the service and arrangements were by J Marshall of Market Rasen.
Born in Birmingham, Roy met wife Sheila at Sheffield University, where both were training for teaching.
They married in 1954 during Roy’s National Service and his first teaching post was in Southampton, near his final naval posting.
Daughters Judith and Patricia were both born there.
Eventually, the family resettled in Sheila’s home county of Lincolnshire, first at Scartho and then Tealby, so Roy could teach at Clee Grammar and then De Aston.
The move to Tealby was prompted by the sight of Crown House, the recently-converted Crown Inn, that Roy passed during some freezing motorcycle journeys from Grimsby to Market Rasen – a move never regretted.
It was during their life in Tealby that son Richard was born. All three children were greatly loved by Roy and they all mourn his passing, along with Sheila.
Roy taught at De Aston for the rest of his teaching career, supporting the changes during that time – the switch to co-educational and from grammar school to comprehensive.
He was a keen housemaster – for Bain – and greatly enjoyed the trips to the Lakes and the companionship of his colleagues.
Pupils of all abilities were dear to him and the family has been touched by the good wishes of former colleagues and pupils.
