The funeral service for Michael John Davey, aged 70 of Market Rasen, was held at St Thomas’s Church.

The Rev Geoffrey Spencer officiated at the service and arrangements were by J Marshall of Market Rasen.

Mick was born at Little Cawthorpe, Louth; the second child of Henry and Alice, brother to Violet.

He left school at 15 and immediately started working on the railway.

He started as a tea boy, before progressing to the ticket office at Louth, Market Rasen and Cleethorpes.

He was then promoted to conductor; both he and Joyce moved to Bessacarr, Doncaster for him to fulfil this role.

Mick was proud he’d travelled on the Royal Express and kept his letter to show everyone.

On his retirement, Mick and Joyce returned to Market Rasen, where
he could continue his hobby of horse racing.

He was a member of nearly every racecourse in the country and travelled every single week, on the train, to one meeting or another.

He was often seen during Royal Ascot week catching the train at Market Rasen in his top hat and tails.

Unfortunately, his Royal Ascot, Royal Enclosure ticket for this year has just arrived in the post.
