The funeral service for John Robert Sutton, aged 75 years of Lincoln, was held at the Central Methodist Church.

The Rev Chris Jewitt officiated at the service and arrangements were by J Marshall of Market Rasen.

John was born in Serpentine Street, Market Rasen.

After leaving school, he went to work at Cottingham’s bakery.

After completing his National
Service, he went to work for Theodore West and then, in the early 60s,
for British Rail Parcels at their Lincoln depot.

John especially enjoyed race days
at Market Rasen, as he was
assigned to collect the Tote, meeting
the train at Central Station
and transporting to and from the racecourse.

BR sold out to National Carriers and, later, to Lynx Express, where John returned to his routes on the Rasen, Caistor and Louth route.

While living in Market Rasen, John had a love of football and played as a goalkeeper, until injury cut short his career.

He also helped out with running a side briefly.

John was also a member of the Social Club and played darts for a while, before moving to Lincoln.
