funeral service for George William (Bill) Baxter, aged 86 years of Friesthorpe was held at the parish church.

The Rev Charles Patrick and Cynthia Bunch officiated at the service and arrangements were by J Marshall of Market Rasen.

Bill was born in Market Rasen.

He worked as a lorry driver for Thomas Walkley at Snelland, Edgar Stamp of Market Rasen and Lincolnshire County Council at Willingham Hall.

He retired in 1992 and then spent all of his spare time gardening and maintaining village grass verges and the churchyard.

Bill also loved to go down to the farm and help out as required repairing machinery.

Villagers also relied on him to service their lawnmowers - he could turn his hand to anything.

Bill will be sadly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
