Brigg MP Andrew Percy has been appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Minister for the Northern Powerhouse, in new Prime Minister Teresa May’s government
The minister is responsible for a range of issues in Northern England including local growth, coastal communities,community rights (including pubs), local enterprise partnership (LEP) policy, enterprise zones and high streets.
The proposed High Speed 2 Rail Link as well as the European Regional Development Fund will be in his remit.
Mr Percy said: “Building the Northern Powerhouse is a long-term government priority and central to our plans to rebalance the economy.
“As a proud Northerner, I am determined to ensure people in every part of the North, from large cities to small rural communities, enjoy greater control over their lives and stronger, more sustainable economic growth.”
