An equestrian event in Caistor has raised £550 for Cancer Research UK.
The event was organised and hosted by Mark Hambleton and his family in memory of fellow Caistor resident Tina Fenton, who died of breast cancer just over a year ago.
The event included a demonstration from horsemanship expert Guy Robertson, together with a hog roast, and attracted around 100 people, who made donations on the door and tried their luck on the raffle.
“We wanted to do something in memory of Tina and also to acknowledge my grandmother, Barbara, who had undergone two operations for bowel cancer,” said Mark.
“My grandmother died last Saturday and donations from her funeral at the end of the month will also go to Cancer Research UK.”
Collecting the cheque was local fundraising manager Debbie Fitzgerald, who said: “We can’t thank Mark and his family enough for all their hard work to raise this money. At Cancer Research UK we deal with all types of cancer - working on prevention, treatment and early detection. In my lifetime cancer survival rates have doubled and we rely on donations such as this to help fund more research.”
