Medieval day for horse charity

BIRDS of prey will be on show this Sunday at the Medieval Tournament being held at the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre.

The resident heavy horses and their riders will also be in full costume demonstrating mounted skill at arms, with some of the riders very keen to win the tournament from Sir Heels Down and his trusted Shire horse Hercules, who have won the last few tournaments.

And it would seem the Black Knight is definitely looking for a win this time, so Sir Heels had better watch out.

As well as the mounted knights, the main entertainment ring will feature a demonstration of gymnastics on horseback from the Lincolnshire equestrian vaulting team, a side saddle demo plus the jester will be entertaining with fire breathing and eating.

There will also be some stalls, bouncy castle, food and drinks, as well as a licensed bar.

The event is a major fundraiser for the care of the horses that live at the horse centre in Great Steeping, near Spilsby, and is the last of the big events of the season.

Admission is £5 for adults and £3.50 for children and oaps.

Gates open at 10.45am, with the parade of horses starting the day off at 11.15am.

Activities continue until 3pm.
