A Market Rasen woman is
going to great heights to raise money for and awareness of a lifesaving charity that helps children with a rare disease.

Laura Robinson is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, which will see her climb Ben Nevis, Snowden and Scafell Pike - all in just 24 hours.

And in taking on this challenge, Laura is hoping to raise £1,000 for the aHUSUK charity.

“My Godson Harry Thomas has aHUS and I am keen to raise awareness of the condition,” said Laura.

“Harry was lucky enough to be treated with a new miracle drug that helped him to make a dramatic recovery, but he continues to receive IV treatment every fortnight and has an array of medicines to take daily.

“But the miracle drug is not yet available on the NHS to all that need it, largely due to it’s costly nature.

“I am very grateful to everyone who has sponsored me so far to help children like Harry.”

The story of little Harry’s remarkable recovery from the rare kidney disease after being treated with the ‘miracle’ drug Eculizumab featured in the Rasen Mail last year.

And readers and Rasen residents got behind his family in their campaign to make the drug available across the country.

Now Laura is hoping that support will be continued.

“I have never done anything like this before,” added Laura, who works for the children’s charity Family Action.

“This is not something I would normally challenge myself to do, but since Christmas I have been in training, with regular walks and runs - and I am really getting quite into it.”

But Laura won’t be alone in her quest, she will be accompanied by her friend Tim McNamarra, whose idea it was to tackle the three peaks.

And the pair will be heading out to take up the Three Peaks Challenge on Sunday, May 4.
